Verdi’s electrifying Requiem—with its blazing choruses, dramatic operatic solos, and powerful orchestra—marks the return of our One City Choir, in partnership with Cantata Singers, led by Noah Horn. Randall Thompson’s The Testament of Freedom, with texts of Thomas Jefferson, continues our celebration of America 250.

What’s Interesting About This Concert

  • Dies Irae: Verdi’s Requiem includes the renowned Dies Irae, a melody which is coded throughout the history of classical music.

  • Groundbreaking: The piece was originally considered too operatic to be performed in a church context, as it was originally intended.

  • Music That Still Speaks: Even over 150 years after its first performance, it is still one of the most popular major choral works to perform.

  • The accessible seating area is located within the Oval, to the right of the DCR Hatch Shell. People with disabilities are admitted into the designated area on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person is allowed one guest and that guest is allowed to bring a folding chair. American Sign Language Interpretation will be provided at the Hatch Shell. This area will close at 6pm or when it has reached capacity, whichever comes first.

    There is limited handicapped parking along Beacon Street near Arlington Street.
