A Map to the Next World
A Map to the Next World is an ambitious, new, concert-length work about caring for our fragile and precious planet. Composer Scott Perkins takes us on a journey from creation, to destruction, to reconciliation and renewal through a nine-part choir, strings, percussion, and celesta. Drawing upon Indigenous American folklore and using words by seven celebrated poets, environmentalists, activists, and anthropologists—Tamiko Beyer, Rachel Carson, Harold Courlander, Joy Harjo, Rachel Morgan, Jay Parini, and Judith Wright—A Map to the Next World helps to guide us in our continued search for new paths as custodians of the earth.
A Cantata Christmas
The full chorus will join together once again for a holiday performance at this special venue for CS. The holiday season and choral music are inextricably linked, and there are lots of great reasons for CS to make this a regular part of our programmatic offerings. Repertoire TBA.
Chamber Series: Our Neighbors North and South
Two recitals featuring songs by Mexican and Canadian Composers including Canadian composer John Greer’s A Prairie Boy’s Life for SATB and 4 hands, songs by John Estacio, as well as songs by some of Mexico’s finest composers: Daniel Catan, CarlosChavez, Arturo Marquez, Jesus Villasenor, Blas Galindo, Miguel Bernal Jimenez, Manuel Ponce and Silvestre Revueltas.
Boston Choral Festival: Monteverdi Vespers
This event will be held at the iconic Cyclorama and encompass a full day of workshops for a select group of area high school choral programs. These ensembles will learn several of the choral movements of the Vespers, joining you all at the culminating concert that evening. We hope to create an experience unique in Boston, bringing together unlikely groups of people around a timeless piece of music we think will excite a lot of people.
