Marya Lowry, narrator
Marya Lowry is a founding member and resident actor with Boston’s award winning Actors’ Shakespeare Project. Roles with ASP include: Cariola/Julia in The Duchess of Malfi, title role in an all-female Macbeth, Gertrude in Hamlet, Olivia in Twelfth Night, Buckingham in Richard III. Other Boston theatres include American Repertory Theatre, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Mobius Artists Group and most recently, the world premiere of The Wrestling Patient at the Calderwood Pavilion / BCA. She has been a narrator with the Boston Pops and the Handel & Haydn Society at Symphony Hall. Voice/Text Coaching for theatre includes Broadway, Off-Broadway, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and a French/Danish international tour of The Bacchae. She has pioneered the development of ecstatic voice and ritual lamentation for actor training and theatre performances and teaches popular workshops in the Ancient Art of Lamentation across the US and Europe, including the UK, Greece, and France. Marya has served on the performance faculty of the Brandeis MFA Professional Actor Training Program since 1989. She works with incarcerated women and girls both as a mentor and teacher.
