Guest conductor for Cantata Singers in March 1979, Benjamin Zander led the group in a diverse program that included music by Bruckner, Webern, Schubert, Mozart, and the Haydn “Lord Nelson” Mass.
Cellist, composer and conductor, Benjamin Zander was the Music Director of the New England Conservatory’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra for forty-five years, from 1967 to 2012, and he was named Faculty emeritus of the New England Conservatory and Preparatory School in July 2012.
Conductor of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra since 1979, Zander founded the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra in 2012, a youth orchestra affiliated with the older orchestra. He is well-known throughout the larger musical community for his extraordinary talent in inspiring young musicians and for his skills as a motivational speaker.
