Two chances to hear Arvo Pärt’s stunning Berliner Messe, Tomás Luis de Victoria’s striking Officium defunctorum, and William Harris’ crystalline Faire is the Heaven. Contemporary Estonian composer Pärt sets the Latin Mass to hauntingly lush and beautiful music for chorus and organ, while Spanish Renaissance composer Victoria’s a cappella Officium defunctorum, a Requiem mass, contrasts with themes of mourning and remembrance. English composer William Harris’ elegant Faire is the Heaven rounds out the final concert of Cantata Singers’ 54th season.
William Cutter, Director of Choral Programs at MIT, will give the pre-concert talks at 7pm and 2pm. Following the performances, all are welcome at free post-concert receptions.
